On motion of Mr; Halff the Senate resolved themselves into a Coinnlitte'e of the Whole, Mr. Wilson in the chair, in order to consider the bill to lay off and establish the cuurity of VuiiCe, to be composed of portions of Craven and Beaufort counties. Mr. Speed-moved to amend by striking , out tlie word "Vance' and insert "Pamlico Agreed to. A discussion of some length en j sued; Messrs. Manly, Hall, Speed and Berry j opposed tiie bill, and Messrs. Thompson, j Jones and Covington supported it. j On motion of Mr. Manly, the committee I arose and reported progress. me speaker resumed the chair, and the Chairman, Mr. Wilson, reported adversely to the bill. Mr. Hall olfered an amendment to the bill, leaving the decision ot the matter to the people of Craven and Beaufort, which was rejected. . The question arising upon the passage of the bill on its second reading, and the ayes and nays being called, the bill was rejected by the casting vote ot the Speaker, ayes 19, nays 19, and the Senate adjourned.
